BLUES

Blues is my alma mater. Rather than paint a portrait of my favourite practitioners, I wanted to somehow describe the effect that the music has on me as well as portraying the historical and geographical narrative of their musical journeys. These guys are my heroes.

 JAZZ

Charlie Parker’s music was incredibly chaotic and I like to think I have encapsulated that in this painting with the random swirls of notes emanating from his trumpet. Miles Davis, ‘Godfather of Cool’, was influenced as much by the European modernist aesthetic as much as he was by music from Africa, hence the incorporation of Modernism in this painting, paying homage to Piet Mondrian.
